Merriam-Webster also defines a sandwich as "two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between". They say that a hot dog is a sandwich because it fits this definition.
Joan Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until 2020 and she says a hot dog is a sandwich.
